Somatic Experiencing (SE™) is a trauma healing modality that works with the felt sense of the body. This body-oriented approach was created by Dr. Peter Levine who studied the nervous system’s reactions in times of stress or trauma and how the body naturally resolves high stress physiological states. This somatic modality works with fight, flight, freeze and flow systems of the body and its goal is to bring the body back into nervous system coherence (balance). Often during times of shock or distress, our bodies become stuck in dysregulated states. SE™ therapists provides clinical tools to resolve these fixated physiological states, focus on the autonomic nervous system and help clients come back into a natural state of self-regulation and coherence.
